-
Why any reasonable person should take a look at green energy options in PA
-
On To The Lies:
-
#6“If the sun isn’t shining or the wind isn’t blowing – you might not get power at your home.”
-
This is patently FALSE. You are on the grid and your power reliability is the same regardless of your supplier (green or brown). If you are receiving power through PPL or PECO, switching to a green supplier has no impact on your home supply reliability. Period.
-
Green energy is harnessed through wind farms and solar arrays in over 30 states. The systems are carefully engineered to account for ebbs and flows in natural energy (sunlight and wind). During cloudy periods, the grid picks up the shortfall, and during sunny or windy periods, the green sources supply abundant power to reduce the demand on “brown” power generation.
-
#5“Green energy is a sham technology that will never work.”
-
This is a common attack from people who simply haven’t read the facts. Right now 1 US wind turbine creates enough power for 332 homes at average (not peak) wind speeds. And the technology is still in its infancy. The lifespan of a turbine is about 20 years.
-
Can we switch our whole energy infrastructure to wind power today? No, but we should use it where we can and take advantage of the infrastructure that is already built.
-
#4“Climate change and global warming aren’t real – why bother?”
-
In my view, “climate change” is NOT EVEN PART OF THE DEBATE. It is about Pollution. I want less pollution. Wind and solar energy sources pollute less than fossil fuel energy. Period. Pollution is real regardless of your political ties or stance on “global warming”. Not convinced? Google “Coal Runoff” and look through some pictures. Wind and solar don’t have these side effects.
-
#3“Switching is a pain.”
-
This has never been more untrue than now. Switching can be done 100% online. No visits to the house, no changes in lines or any physical hardware. A new 100% wind company just launched (link at end of article) that can have you switched into green power in 3 days. No more waiting til the end of your billing period or playing phone tag with companies. If you have never switched – the time to act is now. See links at end.
-
#2“All the green plans are either variable rate or have large early-termination fees if you want out”
-
Until winter 2014, this was largely true. It is different now, as there are a few companies that offer green plans with BOTH fixed rates AND no termination fees. This is great because it allows you to switch to green energy without feeling locked in to a long term commitment or being subjected to the volatility in variable rates. Get a fixed rate that won’t creep up over time. See no-fee, fixed rate companies below.
-
And the Top Lie Told About Green Energy:
-
#1“Its Expensive”
-
The monthly cost with one of these new fixed rate green suppliers is LESS than $5 for the average PA household. There are MANY PA residents who are on “brown” plans that are actually MORE expensive than fixed rate green plans. If you can afford the high speed internet you’re using to read this article, you can afford $5.00 a month to make 100% of your home powered from renewable energy.
-
Why You Should Switch to Green in 1 Sentence:
-
Switching your home to Green Energy lowers your carbon emissions (pollution) more than if you NEVER drove again.
